Introducing Summit Sculpture at Riverhill

Sculptor Joshua Diment added three new works to the Riverhill collection at the end of last season and we are delighted to start our 2020 season with another spectacular piece installed in the Rock Garden.

Ouroboros, made in 2018, was Joshua Diment’s first experimentation with curves. An obsidian and silver ring in the centre forms the pupil of an eye surrounded by blue glass, always looking up to the stars above.

Within ancient Egyptian iconography, ouroboros first appeared in the Book of the Netherworld in relation to the god Ra and his union with Osiris in the underworld. Looking down on this sculpture one can see the intertwined serpents with the stars of Osiris, Isis and Horus represented in gold, copper and silver on the surface of the piece. The geometrical shape of the vesica piscis can also be seen. This shape is most often found in sacred architecture and art. The idea of creating something to, what are believed to be, divine proportions is an integral part of Joshua’s work. Sacred geometry and numerology are at the heart of all of his pieces.

Riverhill has been a long term supporter of the arts and for the first time this year we will be hosting a new exhibition: Summit Sculpture. The month long show runs from 12th September until 11th of October and will showcase carefully selected sculpture in different media, including works by Joshua. The works will all be sited sympathetically to create a dialogue with their surroundings and enrich the visitor experience.

We liked the idea of doing this going into Autumn, as the seasons change and things slow down after the busy summer we hope it will provide a calming and thought provoking addition to our Gardens.

All works will be available for sale.
