Riverhill Highlights for Children

The following experiences are available for children to enjoy throughout the season.

Spot the Yeti

Pop up to our den building woods between 2:00 and 4:00 on a weekend or School Holiday and see if you can track down our Yeti. We are so lucky to have this rare creature in our woods and, despite his wild appearance, he is a shy and gentle beast who our younger visitors love to spend time with, collecting leaves and building dens. Please alway treat him with kindness and remember to never chase a Yeti!

Hedge Maze

Our fiendishly tricky hedge maze was designed by Adrian Fisher, the world’s leading maze designer. It is based on Tibetan carvings and it is possible to solve it in either a clockwise or anti clockwise direction. Now in its 10th year the maze has really shot up and is a wonderfully fun challenge for all ages.

The structure in the centre of our maze is called a Cupola and originally sat on top of the Cadbury’s Schweppes bottling plant in Colwall, Malvern. Getting it here and installed was quite the challenge!

Little Everest View Point

We are lucky enough to have one of the highest vantage points in the county and we can promise that it is well worth the climb. Look out for the panoramic viewpoint sign showing the many landmarks across the horizon.

The top of Little Everest is also an excellent picnic spot, with benches all ready for you.

Can you spot our incredible waving hand sculptures?

Also look out for the Riverhill bee hives (You will find our delicious honey in our shed shops)

Den Building Woods

Our chestnut woods are just perfect for a spot of den building. Please feel free to add to any existing camps or start your own using any fallen timber you can find. We find some spectacular creations up in the woods and our resident Yeti is always delighted to help out with building or trying out the dens for his naps!

riverhill-adventure-playground.jpg

Adventure Playground

Our young explorers love to let off steam in the adventure playground. There is a twisty slide, cargo net, lots of things to climb and swing from and a wonderful tree house get away as well as picnic benches for a quick snack in between adventures!

Children’s Leaflet

The amazing Debbie Draws Maps has created a special map just for our young explorers. Pick up one of our new Children’s leaflets when you arrive, it has a fab treasure hunt as well as some little fun things to do in the Gardens.

Activities & Events for Children & Families

We run half term and school holiday events throughout our season. Highlights include our traditional Riverhill Easter bunny hunt, our 6 weeks of summer holiday fun and our incredibly beautiful autumnal pumpkin festival. All our family events are included in the entry price and there is no need to book, just come along and join in the fun. Check out some of our upcoming events below, or view our seasonal calendar for more child-friendly activities.

I love exploring, playing hide and seek and the adventure playground.

Notes for Grown Ups

Prams / Buggies

We are a multi terrain garden so access varies across the site. Whilst the paths to the Café, Walled Garden, Rock Garden, Tortoise Walk and Summer House are all lovely and smooth and level, the hillier areas of our garden have uneven and twisty paths. Our recommendation is to bring carriers/slings to explore these parts. You are welcome to leave your buggy by the Ticket Office whilst you explore (Please don’t forget your rain cover just in case). We are sorry but our paths are just too narrow for double buggies.

Please leave your buggies outside the Café during busy periods.

Scooters / Bikes / Skateboards

Please note that scooters and bike/trikes and skateboards are not permitted.

Ball Games

please do not bring balls to the Gardens. We need to ensure everyone has a safe and relaxing time here, whilst protecting our plants & grass, so please, no ball games.

Changing Facilities

We have baby changing stations in both the family and gents toilets.

Eating & Drinking

Our Cafe is run by an external company, please click here for more info. Please contact them directly with any queries.

Water is always available at the Café. Please help us reduce waste by bringing your own bottles to refill.

Picnics

You are welcome to picnic anywhere in the gardens except for the Rose Walk and the terraces in the Walled Garden. You will find a selection of benches dotted around. If you are looking for a table these are located near the maze, in the playground, at the top of the viewpoint, in the Old Orchard and in the Walled Garden and Summer House. Please bring any litter back to the bin by the Ticket Office.

Parking

We have ample free parking here. If you have additional access needs, please use the disabled parking by the main house.

Clothing

We want children to let off steam so we suggest wearing shoes or boots with a good grip and bring waterproofs so you can carry on enjoying your day whatever the weather. Don’t worry if you or the children forget your wellies, we have plenty for you to borrow at the Ticket Office. Don’t forget your sunscreen and hats in the summer!
